The Museum

The first restoration and cataloguing of antiquities in the Sanctuary of Corbetta were done in the middle of XIX cent by the rector Carlo Chierichetti, local historian.

The museum was seen linke a way exponing the history of religion in Corbetta and in his sanctuary, since the miraculous apparition in 1555. Objects were in the first placed in the old rectory and only starting to '30 they were placed in upper rooms of the cloister annexed to the sanctuary to be accessible to the public.

Museum's rooms were visited in 1955 by Giovanni Battista Montini, at that time archbishop of Milan and sebsequently pope Paul VI.

The museum has just reopened his doors after restorations in occasion of the IV centenary of Saint Charles Borromeo's canonization and it is composed by paintings of sacred art and precious object donated as ex voto, collected in the chapel of Blessings, in the second inner court, in the cloister, on upper rooms.

Here there are some furnitures of the church, some altarpieces in gold and precious stones, or woven in silk, realized for the major altar of the lower church of San Nicolao or for devotional chapels, and liturgic vessels in gold and silver. Precious are also pictures of relief by the best brush of ancient Italy as Giulio Cesare Procaccini, Giovanni Stefano Danedi "il Montalto" and Luigi Pellegrini Scaramuccia "il Perugino".

The Fraternity of Holy Rosary of Corbetta, in collaboration with Gruppo Devoti della Madonna dei Miracoli di Corbetta, organize on request and periodically, visits to the sanctuary and to the museum annexed, giving some qualified quides to show the true casket of history and religion that here is. The museum was completely renewed in occasion of the anniversary of the canonization of Saint Charles Borromeo, instead of the image it was noticed as usual, giving more opportunity to visitors.
