The Miracle of 17th april 1555

The strong impetus to Marian veneration practiced within the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, it was found from April 17, 1555 when the town of Corbetta witnessed the great miracle that is still known to the general public.

"The Child Jesus escapes from the arm of the Virgin Mary and took to the streets to play with three of his peers. It happened April 17, 1555, the first Thursday after Easter, Corbetta, an elegant town, including the presence of many villas, a twenty kilometers from Milan on the way to Vigevano.
This news, which has the sensational, could be considered a result of pure imagination, if he had the support of historical data. The three boys who play on the square has a name: Cesare dello Stampino, Antonio Angelo della Torre and his brother John, ten years old, deaf and dumb, familiarly known Navello.
On the front of the church of S. Nicola is painted a beautiful image of the Madonna, seated on a throne with the infant Jesus in her womb that day, like every day, three boys are playing on the square outside, when suddenly a shout, with the articulate voice: The Madonna! The boys interrupted the game and draws the attention of all. It is the first for John to realize that Jesus Child fell on the square to play with them. The flows in the shouting of its wonder and joy at the same time regain the use of the word. The Child Jesus, left the picture, and took to the streets, looks pleased with the amusements of the three boys. Our Lady, almost surprised, conscious of the child's escape, she fell on the square to take it back, like a good mom.
The boys, retakened from amazement, leave the game and run to tell the fact to parents, and the news spreads like wildfire in the small village and beyond. The episode seems the fantasy of the guys, so it is wonderful, but it is the irrefutable proof: Novello speaks quickly, whereas before it was dumb and deaf!
It is the first miracle of many: in just 80 days after the appearance, it has around fifty. Also remembers the first day and the name of the lucky Serafino Barchetto April 20, Beltramina Marcotti 21, 22 of Siena Peter, Tommaso Ferrario and many others, so that Our Lady of Corby is called Our Lady of Miracles.
The following year, 1556, the Chapter of Canons, to accommodate the many pilgrims and the painting to protect exposed to the weather, decided to build a shrine.
