History

On June 10, 1521 three brothers notables of Corbetta Onofrio, Antonio Borri and Francesco founded the Confraternity of Our Lady of the Rosary, with the aim to promote devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary.

In August 1630, partly as a result of the miraculous events that followed then by the eponymous foundation sanctuary, the Brotherhood decided to purchase a banner of great artistic value coll'effigie of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, to be worn during processions and in gratitude to Our Lady for the sudden and almost miraculous cessation of the plague in Corbetta. Also in the same period were defined characteristics of the uniform uniform, consisting of a white robe, a blue girdle and a blue cloak bearing the emblem in silver of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin and a few sticks to use during the solemnities by Prior, Vice Prior and the Vice Chancellor.

Over the centuries, the Brotherhood became the subject of numerous donations from wealthy notables as Roberto Borro and Ludovico Marliani, respectively in 1568 and 1573, the donated part of their property. The brotherhood was approved by church authorities in 1902 when the Prior in office turned a request to the Rector of the Sanctuary, which he obtained, by Cardinal Andrea Ferrari, Archbishop of Milan, an official certificate of approval. The brotherhood also got to join the archibrotherhood of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary in Rome in 1903.

The fraternity has received the blessing of Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi on a visit to the Sanctuary of Corbetta in 2003 and gave to the prior in charge of officiating for another 5 years.

The Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary is located in the upper church of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Miracles of Corbetta.
